Under this year’s theme "Comm:unity”, Calle Libre commemorated its 11th festival edition. Over the years, we observed how art in public spaces left traces of change in the quality of life for residents and visitors. It reshaped and uplifted, evolving these spaces into meeting points, strengthening identification with one’s surroundings, and enabling the emergence of new initiatives within those neighborhoods. Public art, in this context, went beyond aesthetics, and this year, we placed a strong emphasis on the power of art as a catalyst for positive social change within our communities.

Comm:unity
"Comm:unity" symbolizes a warm embrace of coexistence, where diverse perspectives converge to create a beautiful tapestry of shared experiences. It is a collective effort where individuals work toward a common goal, each contributing a unique strength to the whole. This concept embodies the idea of a safe space where we find solace in the unity of shared values, supporting each other through life's inevitable challenges. In a world characterized by ruptures, conflicts and wars, we place what unites us above what divides us and the community above the individual.

Opening
At the official opening event of the festival, we curated an extensive program designed for all ages. The street in front of the Superbude Hotel was closed off and transformed into a lively street festival, with festivities beginning in the afternoon. Activities for younger visitors included chalk drawing, crafts, a bouncy castle, and XXL Jenga in the Kids Area. Meanwhile, independent designers showcased their creations at smaller stands in the Superbude Supermarket, a marketplace for young designers and handcrafted jewelry. Guests enjoyed a variety of food and drinks from bars and food trucks, all while local DJs and live music provided an upbeat soundtrack throughout the day.
The opening also featured a Music Area with performances by MIHINI and Fivehouse. Additionally, an Artist Talk was hosted by Miriam Winter, featuring key figures such as Christian Lainer, Alexander Nikolai, Jakob Kattner, Krystyna Schreiber, Zosen Bandido, Dante, and Alex Senna.
As every year, our festival revolves around our featured walls. Visitors were able to see artists painting live from across various locations in Vienna's 2nd district, offering them a unique opportunity to observe the artistic process firsthand as talented artists transformed walls into vibrant, large-scale murals.
live paintings
This year, Calle Libre offered a diverse range of creative, hands-on workshops as part of our festival program, all aligned with the theme of "Comm:unity”.
Participants had the opportunity to engage with talented artists such as Happy One by Nature, Sebastian Schager, Rosa Hirzer, and the internationally renowned duo Mina Hamada & Zosen Bandido. Each artist brought their unique style and expertise, offering immersive experiences in mural painting, stencil art, and spray painting, while fostering a strong sense of community and creativity.
Workshops
Our tour guide Tobi took participants on a journey through some of the curated street art spots Calle Libre has developed over the past 11 years. These tours explored the 6th, 7th, and 2nd districts, offering insights into street art culture, meeting artists, and learning about their techniques. One special tour also led to the UN Wall, a mural curated in June, giving participants a deeper look into the evolution of public art in Vienna.
Tours
block party
The Block Party offered a relaxed setting for visitors to meet the talented artists, providing a unique opportunity to learn about their creative processes and artistic visions. Attendees enjoyed live music performances by Swift Circle, enhancing the festive atmosphere while witnessing the dynamic energy of the Graffiti Jam unfold.
Throughout the festival, we hosted a variety of engaging events, including a vibrant Graffiti Jam where artists came together to create stunning works that aligned with our theme of community. The participating artists—Kiru_Kona, Hypersuso, Ludwig Georg von Thurn, Coins, Ana Vollwesen, Vodawotah, and Jakob der Bruder—collaborated using a cohesive color scheme that beautifully reflected the spirit of togetherness.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Superbude for hosting us, to our partners and volunteers who helped us make Vienna a bit brighter.
Let the streets be free!
