2023: diez. years of transformation
27.07 - 05.08.2023
Transformation, for us, was a change of standards. In the previous 10 years, we all witnessed rapid changes - both socially and ecologically. We wanted to offer artists the opportunity to express their own perception of the transformation of the past and also of the coming 10 years. For this purpose - fittingly for the 10th edition - the Calle Libre Festival took place for the first time over the duration of 10 days, during which 10 large-scale murals were created in the 16th district of Vienna.
In addition, we also looked at ourselves. As part of the Austrian street art scene in the past years, we were not only allowed to shape the appearance but also a new perception of Vienna - next to historical buildings and classical art, colorful murals and strong messages were romping all over the city. What had started as a small festival had helped make contemporary art forms more relevant in Vienna.
We were immensely proud of this and it drove us to continue and, above all, to do more in the future. As Calle Libre, we wanted to continue to develop: In addition to the annual festival, we also planned to push our other projects such as workshops, tours, exhibitions, and commissions, thus acting as an international platform for urban art.
„10 years were filled with dedication. 10 years were filled with unique personalities And, of course, 10 years were filled with lots and lots of color. for us, it was time to reflect on the past 10 years and also to look to the future.“

The exhibition "VI(E)SÃO" marked the first comprehensive gathering of international street artists in Vienna. The title reflected the merging of Vienna and São Paulo, symbolizing the convergence of two cultures and the pursuit of a shared vision. This collaboration between "Choque Cultural" and "Calle Libre" showcased a diverse international street art scene, aimed to redefine street art from vandalism to a recognized contemporary art form in museums and galleries, enabling artists to thrive from their street work. Vienna's art gallery AG18 in the first district became the venue for this intercultural bridge.
