2017: Urban Divinity

“Like gods, they look upon us. High above us their brilliance sits enthroned. From the curbstone to the skyline of a city, something transcendental sticks to them, always integrated into a city’s architectural structure and substance while remaining intangible. We confess through them our sins and they are voiceless witnesses of the weight we silently carry day-to-day.”

In 2017, we exceeded the number of artists present at our past festivals, hosting 10 different artists from Latin America as well as from Austria. Again, we collaborated with a number of districts, focusing also on expanding into outer districts. Again, we brought a splash of colourful life to Vienna.

In cooperation with quartier21, there was an opening of the festival in the courtyard of the Museumsquartier. Thereby, both artists and visitors to the festival should meet and interact with each other. During a discussion with artists and experts, the complexity of public space was discussed. In the course of an artist talk with curators, district leaders, and artists, the various aspects of contemporary art in public space were illuminated.

In the course of the festival, wall designs were carried out on various wall surfaces in the 7th, 6th, 5th, and 14th and 15th district. The festival showed both independent artistic positions as well as collectively designed works. Passers-by, residents, and visitors were invited to watch the artists at work, to discuss, and to enter into mutual dialogue.
